MANILA — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said Friday it hopes to start the construction of the new bridgeway along EDSA within six months that will replace the controversial “Mt. Kamuning” footbridge.

In an interview on DZMM Teleradyo’s Ronda Pasada, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon explained the government considers this project as an "emergency" after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. himself said the footbridge was unacceptable.

“Papaspasan talaga natin yan at sisimulan na natin yan at within the year, hopefully within six months eh matapos natin yan para magiba na natin nang tuluyan itong Mt. Kamuning,” Dizon added.

Even with the pending EDSA rebuild, Dizon said it would push through with immediate construction of the "new and modern" bridge way.

DOTr will award the project to its contractor in the next few weeks, said Dizon.

The footbridge was built by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA). This time, Dizon said DOTr itself will spend for the construction of its replacement.
