WASHINGTON DC — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Tuesday said he was surprised that tarpaulins for his upcoming State of the Nation Address (SONA) were being installed amid heavy rains and flooding, calling the move “an unfortunate misjudgment."

The move to out up SONA posters while several areas were flooded is “highly inappropriate,” Marcos Jr. said in a press conference in the Blair House.

“It was a surprise. I only found out early this morning when I got up. That's what they’re doing,” said Marcos, who has been in Washington DC since Sunday for a meeting at the White House.

“It is highly inappropriate… Baha na nga, bakit pa kayo maglalagay diyan?” he said.

“That is an unfortunate misjudgment on their part, but we’ve corrected it, and I trust it will not happen anymore,” he added.

Earlier this week, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin released a memo suspending all SONA preparations as the Philippines reels in from the effects of torrential rains and severe flooding.
