MANILA — Malacañang has authorized Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) chief Jonvic Remulla to announce class and work suspensions "during inclement weather and disasters," the agency said Tuesday.

In a statement, the DILG cited Presidential Communications Office Secretary Dave Gomez's confirmation that Remulla was authorized by President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to "make announcements on behalf of the Cabinet and the Palace in times of national emergencies."

Earlier this month, Remulla said he had sought Marcos' approval for him to declare class suspensions earlier during tropical cyclones, citing his gubernatorial experience in handling them.

"As NDRRMC (National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council) Vice Chairperson for Disaster Preparedness, Remulla assured the public that announcements will be made at least a night before—consistent with his practice during his time as Cavite governor," the DILG said.
