MANILA — A three-story residential house made of light materials beside Estero de Paco in Barangay 684, Paco, Manila collapsed Wednesday afternoon.

One of the residents shared that the house, primarily built with wood, had weakened over time.

“Maya-maya lumalangitngit, kaya na ano kami na nakalabas lahat kami talaga. Kasi, talagang sabi, talagang ma ano na, guguho at guguho na to,” said Wandy Lubian, one of the affected residents.

Neighbors also noted that the continuous rains in recent days likely contributed to the deterioration of the structure’s stability.

“Day three yata ng ulan, parang tumutunog na siya, yung alam mong babagsak na, ayun hanggang sa bumigay nalang siya. Sumuko na siya,” said Dane Arcilla, neighbor of the affected residents.

According to barangay records, the house was occupied by 10 families.

No casualties or injuries were reported.

“So, agad naman po na humingi kami ng assistance sa MSWD, fire volunteers, kasi may mga wire po na electrical doon na hindi namin magalaw. Assistance gaya nitong mga tinutulugan nila. Yung dinner po nila. Tapos may konti pong grocery,” said Juvy Lozada, Bgy. 684 secretary.

The affected residents are currently taking temporary shelter at the barangay’s multipurpose hall.
