MANILA —  Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte on Thursday urged those staying at evacuation centers to not go home just yet.

She said inclement weather still persists and there are still active weather disturbances affecting the country.

Belmonte said it would be more difficult to evacuate again if there would be a sudden heavy downpours at night.

“Ayaw lang natin pauwiin tapos bigla na lang in the middle of the night umulan, I would like them to stay in our evacuation centers,” Belmonte said.

The mayor noted that they will allow evacuees to go home once there is a go signal from the national government or if the weather bureau reports improved weather conditions.

There are over 33,000 evacuees in over 100 evacuation centers across the city as of Wednesday night.

Some of the most affected villages are Bagong Silangan, Payatas, Fairview, and more. She assured them that food and other basic necessities are provided for free by the city government.

“Lahat ng evacuees natin nakakatanggap ng three hot meals a day. Yung mga basic needs nila binibigay natin. May mga camp managers tayo na kapag may mga baby na nangangailangan ng lampin at special needs, nabibibigay natin lahat niyan,” she added.

Belmone said that the city government is also replacing the wheelchairs or crutches of persons with disabilities who may have lost their own during the flood.

She added that they also have a database to check whose livelihood have been affected and the city will help these individuals.
