Screenshot from Bayan USA Northeast video"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Activists hold a protest in front of the Philippine Consulate in New York City on July 27, 2025.<em> Screenshot from Bayan USA Northeast video</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — Overseas Filipino Workers and migrant Filipinos on Sunday held a protest in New York City to call for the release of 38 Filipinos being held by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.</p><p>The protest in front of the Philippine Consulate was organized by groups affiliated with Bagong Alyansang Makabayan USA Northeast to coincide with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s State of the Nation Address in Manila on Monday.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/7/20/marcos-trump-probably-will-not-tackle-deportation-issue-in-first-official-meeting-ambassador-0748"><strong>Marcos, Trump &#x27;probably will not&#x27; tackle deportation issue in first official meeting: ambassador<br/></strong></a></div><p>Bayan USA Northeast also called for legal and financial aid from the Philippines for Filipinos detained by ICE and those already deported from the US.</p><p>They said Filipinos that the US will deport should not be send to a third country.</p><p>According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, ICE has 38 Filipinos in custody going through deportation proceedings.</p><p>Similar protests were held in Los Angeles, Chicago and in Seattle last Saturday while activists also held separate programs in Washington DC, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Portland on Monday.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/4/5/migrante-presses-ph-consulate-general-for-plans-on-pinoys-detained-for-immigration-issues-1122"><strong>Migrante presses PH consulate general for plans on Pinoys detained for immigration issues<br/></strong></a></div><p>According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, there were more than 108,000 OFWs in the US in 2023 .</p><p>The Commission on Filipinos Overseas has meanwhile tallied more than 300,000 Filipinos migrating to the US between 2012 and 2022.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO</strong></div><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/P1lHjZOp9bw?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div>
