<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:960px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/175377600952720250512-halalan-batasan-hills-voters-MD14.jpg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Residents cast their vote during the 2025 midterm elections at the New Capitol Estates - 1 basketball court in Barangay Batasan Hills, Quezon City on May 12, 2025. <em>Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN News </em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA – There is no indication that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will veto the bill fixing the term of Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (BSK) officials to four years and postponing the elections to 2026, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Tuesday.</p><p>“Umaasa naman tayo na any moment from now, mapipirmahan ng mahal na Pangulo ang batas, sapagkat wala namang pinapahayag sa atin ang Palasyo or any indication na ito ay ive-veto ng ating Pangulo o hindi lalagdaan,” Comelec Chairman George Garcia told reporters.</p><p>Malacañang earlier this month <a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/7/16/palace-asks-comelecs-comment-on-bill-postponing-bske-1711">sought </a>the comment of the Comelec regarding the proposed law.</p><p>Garcia on July 16 said they only provided relevant data. but the decision still lies with the President.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/7/18/imee-presses-marcos-jr-to-sign-bske-bill-1209">Imee presses Marcos Jr. to sign BSKE bill</a></div><p>“Sinabi nating sadyang sobra, puno ang kamay ng Komisyon sa paghahanda sa Bangsamoro at sa Barangay at SK Elections,” he said.</p><p>“Mako-compromise ang kalidad ng ating paghahanda dahil magkasabay halos. Isang buwan lang ang pagitan ng dalawang halalan na yan,” he added.</p><p>“Sinabi natin, as far as the Comelec is concerned, kung gugustuhin ituloy then handa naman kami pero kung gugustuhing ipagpaliban, mas makakapaghanda kami,” he said.</p><p>The poll chief noted that their preparations for BSKE “gets shorter and shorter” as they await the President’s decision.</p><p>Once the bill is signed by the President into law, the barangay and SK elections will be held on the first Monday of November 2026.</p><p>It will also make the BSK officials’ term of office to four years from the current three years.</p><p>Comelec earlier adjusted the procurement processes for the metal ballot boxes for the manual voting and deliveries for the election paraphernalia due to the developments.</p><p>The commission, however, still proceeded with the 10-day <a class="fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/7/9/comelec-to-hold-voter-s-registration-for-bske-on-aug-1-10-1809">voter’s registration</a> for the BSKE beginning August 1.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO:</strong></div><div style="text-align:center"><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/6yLlaL8ajtk?si=LXu2_AA8GTl8kE-J" title="YouTube video player" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe><br/></div>
