MANILA — International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutors have submitted a fresh batch of evidence against former President Rodrigo Duterte, marking the 12th time that the panel sent a communique regarding the proof they intend to use to prove the Filipino leader’s liability in allegedly committing crimes against humanity during his administration’s campaign against illegal drugs.

In a document dated July 4, the prosecution panel noted that it has disclosed to the Defense 1,253 items on the first of July.

The filing divided the new set of evidence into 10 packages, with some described as follows:

- Davao Death Squad, Mayoral Period

- Barangay Clearance Operations, Presidential Period

- High-Value Target, Presidential Period

“Pursuant to regulation 23bis(1) of the Regulations of the Court, Annex A is filed as confidential because it includes information about the Prosecution’s evidence, including sensitive witness information,” the document read.

The pre-trial chamber earlier set a July 1 deadline for prosecutors to disclose all evidence related to the confirmation of charges hearing.

Duterte’s defense team has been pushing to have a petition for his interim release granted.

Duterte was arrested on March 11  on his arrival from Hong Kong at the request of the International Criminal Court (ICC) as part of its probe into his "war on drugs" that defined his presidency.

The ICC warrant for Duterte's arrest said that as president, the 80-year-old Duterte allegedly created, funded, and armed death squads that carried out murders of purported drug users and dealers.

He was brought to The Hague in the Netherlands on the same day he was arrested.

Duterte on March 14 appeared via video link before ICC judges. He is set to attend a September 23 hearing to confirm the charges against him.

Duterte’s defense team has been pushing to have a petition for his interim release granted before the September session.
