Bienvenido “Benny” Abante Jnr’s plans for the 20th Congress following his proclamation as representative of Manila’s 6th District.Speaking to DZMM, Abante thanked the Commission on Elections for ruling with finality in <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/7/7/comelec-insists-joey-uy-disqualification-final-orders-abante-proclamation-asap-1427?utm_source=dlvr.it&amp;utm_medium=facebook&amp;fbclid=IwY2xjawLZVcZleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBicmlkETFqSDlDZGVqNm1ha21udGhGAR58blWw4OhZ1HrvYmD3EhQrPX0iHHrk90SEXHIVgy4n53D0Pu-zcDoKuW_pUg_aem_q8iwRHqXo07_X2txoN_ojA">nullifying the proclamation</a> of his rival Luis “Joey” Chua Uy.“Naging maganda ang tulog ko kagabi pero nung paggising ko, nanibago ako dahil wala na ‘yung mga pressure sa buhay,...Panalo ito ng rule of law, panalo ito ng taumbayan,” he said.Abante said he has no problem with Uy’s decision to elevate the Comelec decision to the Supreme Court but doubts if the SC will reverse the poll body’s ruling.Questions about Uy’s citizenship were never raised before because they were allies, he said.Abante said he is pushing for an amendment to the Omnibus Election Code that will allow for tougher vetting of electoral candidates including submission of their birth certificates and educational attainments.“Talagang isama na sa mga stringent measures and mga dokumento na dapat malaman ng taumbayan bago tumakbo ang sinumang tao,” he said.Abante said he is hopeful that he will retain his previous post as chairman of the House committee on human rights or even a higher post.He said he is also hoping to revive the Quad Committee hearings that will investigate government irregularities.“Definitely the Quad Comm will continue on. These young guns are excited,” he said.Other bills he is filling is a revival of the death penalty and a ban on online gambling.
