MANILA — Ambassador Angelica Caraos Escalona, former consul general in Canada, is the new spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs.Escalona came home from Toronto, Canada a month ago.According to the DFA, Escalona is a career diplomat who has been in the foreign service since 1996.<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/17540429310873237.jpg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/>Consul General Escalona and NHCP Chair Jose with officials of the NCHP and Philippine Consulate. Philippine Consulate General in Toronto photo release</div>She has served in various capacities at the DFA, including as executive director of the Office of Consular Affairs and director of the Offices handling ASEAN, European, Asian, and American Affairs.She has also represented the Philippines in key posts overseas. Apart from her most recent stint in Canada, she was also posted in Indonesia, Japan, and the United States. “Her work has earned her multiple honors, including the Gawad Mabini – Dakilang Kasugo and awards from the Indonesian government,” the DFA said in a statement.Ambassador Escalona holds a master’s degree in Foreign Affairs and Trade from Monash University in Australia and a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Tsukuba University in Japan.New Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro, personally introduced Escalona to the media.
