Tanza Uno. </p><p>Singson, 61, has been living around Tanza – a flood-prone area – since the ‘80’s. </p><div><a class="fr-green" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/8/11/15-contractors-cornered-p100-b-worth-of-flood-control-projects-since-2022-marcos-1053"><strong>15 contractors cornered P100-B worth of flood control projects since 2022: Marcos</strong></a></div><p>He said the city’s flood problem never went away every time there’s storms and heavy rains compounded by the high tide. However, he acknowledged that what happened recently was different. </p><p>“Siguro inabot hanggang bewang, hita pinaka-ano na yun. Kaya nga ang ginagamit dito bangka. Bangka na ang bumibiyahe pag umakyat sa tulay,” said Singson. “Kaya naman nagkaganon ay dahil sa flood control sa Tangos… yung mga flood gate, sira kasi hindi gumagana. Pero kung gumagana yun, napakalaking tulong dito.” </p><p>The 61-year-old believed there&#x27;s a 50-50 chance the flood problem will be solved permanently – even if the President launched his &quot;Isumbong sa Pangulo&quot; website, which allows the public to scrutinize flood control projects. </p><p>“Napakahirap, laging lubog. parang nasanay na rin kami. nakasanayan na namin e. kahit sabihin na ipaliwanag nila, wala ring pagbabago. Ginagawan nila ng paraan pero kahit anong gawin nila, pagdating ng panahon, kung kailan tag-ulan, tsaka nasisira,” he added. </p><p>Navotas is among the cities submerged in recent heavy floods, most especially that the navigational gate covering areas in Camanava is still being fixed. </p><div><a class="fr-green" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/8/13/house-leaders-ok-with-third-party-probe-into-infra-projects-1635"><strong>&#x27;We can&#x27;t investigate ourselves&#x27;: House leaders OK with third-party probe into infra projects</strong></a></div><p>Last month, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr visited Tanza National High School and the navigational gate to check on the flooded residents and inspect the flood control facility.</p><div> </div><div><strong>FLOOD CONTROL PROJECTS</strong> </div><p>Based on the President’s website, at least 50 flood control projects are recorded in the city. </p><p>Some of these however remained under construction – just like in Barangay Tanza Dos: a dike that stretches from a couple of kilometers, and pumping stations to mitigate flooding and to veer away their dependence from the navigational flood gate. </p><p>“For the first time ever I think from 10 years to 11 years, tsaka na lang nakaranas ang Bgy. Tanza ng ganito kalalang pagbaha. So hindi na rin kinakaya ng existing flood-control projects namin tulad ng pumping stations ang pagpasok ng tubig at pag-control ng baha sa barangay,” said Yanyan Espiritu, barangay chairperson of Tanza Dos. </p><p>One of their six pumping stations, however, remained under construction – something that their office already criticized. </p><p>She said the Donya Aurora pumping station has been under construction since last year, which could have been helpful in mitigating floods caused by the broken navigational gate. </p><p>“Actually ang barangay, paulit-ulit nang binabalikan yung contractor doon, paulit-ulit na kaming nagtatawag ng meeting sa barangay,” said Espiritu. </p><p>“Personal na kaming pumupunta para kulitin sila kasi malaki yung role ng Donya Aurora pumping station sana para ma-prevent lalo na yung nangyaring few weeks ago na pagbaha,” she added. </p><p>ABS-CBN News sought comments from the contractor but it has yet to respond to us as of this story’s posting.</p><div> </div><div><strong>NAVOTAS SAYS CLOSELY MONITORING PROJECTS</strong> </div><p>In Barangay Tangos North also in Navotas, there are four recorded flood control projects from 2022 to 2025.</p><div><a class="fr-green" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/8/11/villanueva-no-senators-linked-to-15-contractors-in-questionable-flood-control-projects-1621"><strong>&#x27;Vindication&#x27;: No senators linked to 15 contractors in questionable flood control projects, claims Villanueva</strong></a> </div><p>Based on the president’s website, the most recent project was supposed to be finished by March 17, 2025. But village officials said two of these projects have yet to be completed. </p><p>They said they do not directly handle the projects’ implementation, which is why they only inform the local government when these are delayed or need rehabilitation. </p><p>“Yung mga problemang yan inaasikaso ng ating congressman, mayor.  Maraming nagbabantay sa flood-control, may kanya-kanyang tao. Dati po, hindi madedelay yan. Nandoon ang mismong tao,” said Amadeng Libao, barangay chairperson. </p><p>In a video statement to ABS-CBN News, Mayor John Rey Tiangco said they are closely monitoring these flood control projects. </p><p>“Hindi lang sa flood-control projects kundi pati na rin sa ibang proyekto. Regular din ang pagpupulong natin sa ibang ahensya tulad ng DPWH.
