MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the creation of an office to oversee the government’s initiative in rehabilitating the Pasig River. Marcos Jr. issued Executive Order 92 on August 13 creating the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Pasig River Rehabilitation.“Considering the urgent and effective action required for the rehabilitation of Pasig River, there is a need to create a dedicated office to oversee and ensure the efficient, effective, and timely implementation of the rehabilitation and development of the Pasig River,” the order reads.It will be led by former Human Settlements and Urban Development Secretary Jose “Jerry” Acuzar, who was removed from his post during the Marcos Jr. administration&#x27;s Cabinet revamp.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/5/23/marcos-to-retain-economic-managers-after-courtesy-resignations-palace-1434">Marcos retains economic managers, shuffles other Cabinet secretaries </a></div>He was later designated Presidential Adviser for Pasig River Development.The Office of the Presidential Adviser on Pasig River Rehabilitation is tasked with advising the president on all matters regarding the formulation and implementation of government policies and programs for the rehabilitation of Pasig River water system and nearby water systems.It is also directed to coordinate with concerned local government units in the implementation of policies and programs.The office is also mandated to submit a bi-annual report to the President through the Office of the Executive Secretary.The order also reorganized the Inter-Agency Council for the Pasig River Urban Development with Acuzar as chair and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chair Romando Artes as vice chair.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/08/30/23/govt-bares-master-plan-to-develop-pasig-river">Housing dep&#x27;t bares master plan to develop Pasig River, nearby areas </a></div>The Pasig River Rehabilitation Project aims to “transform the 25-kilometer riverfront into a commercial and tourist hub featuring parks, bike lanes, pedestrian pathways and commercial spaces”, according to the Presidential Communications Office.In 2019, the President Rodrigo Duterte dissolved the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission and distributed its functions to other agencies.
