Flood hits area around Senate

Footage and pictures from Senate security showed flood waters around its premises on Diokno Boulevard before noon on Friday.  Vehicles had difficulty passing the area due to the floods.The floods did not enter the building but reached the driveway fronting the Senate, according to its security team.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/weather-traffic/2025/8/22/list-flooded-roads-in-metro-manila-on-aug-22-friday-0940">LIST: Flooded roads in Metro Manila on Aug. 22, Friday</a></div>The Senate area is usually flooded because it is located beside the bay and a flood gate. Flood waters usually recede within 30 minutes after rains stop.The flooding and rains affected a prayer rally outside the Senate.The Senate is closed on Fridays because it operates on a 4-day work week scheme.  It is also a long weekend because of Ninoy Aquino Day on Thursday and National Heroes Day on Monday.The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee earlier this week opened its probe on flood control projects, <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/8/19/senate-blue-ribbon-subpoenas-contractors-absent-from-flood-control-probe-1349">with 8 of the 15 invited contractors failing to show up. </a>
