<p>MANILA — The Department of Transportation - Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (DOTr-SAICT) issued more than 10 traffic violation tickets to public utility jeepney (PUJ) drivers in Pasay City Monday.</p><p>DOTr-SAICT team leader Mark Delos Reyes led the roadworthiness inspection along EDSA.</p><p>According to Delos Reyes, this is the 3rd week of the agency’s continued operations to make sure that PUJs are all roadworthy.</p><p>”Yung mapapara na babagsak dito sa ating ginagawang inspection- bukod sa ticket, at kumpiskado ang kanilang mga lisensiya...kinukumpiska na rin po natin ang mga plaka. Para itong mga opetator ay ma-obliga na ipaayos yung kani-kanilang mga sasakyan at aktuwal na ipapa-inspeksyon sa LTO Central office bago maibalik ang kanilang plaka at lisensiya,” Delos Reyes told reporters.</p><p>PUJ drivers who were given violation tickets refused to be interviewed but their colleagues who also ply their routes along the EDSA-Pasay area told ABS-CBN News that they are not against the random inspection.</p><p>Meanwhile, 62-year-old Guillermo Decena, who has been a jeepney driver for more than four decades, said he makes sure that his unit is always well maintained to ensure the safety of his passengers.</p><p>”Sinita ako nila. Narito na ako, pinakita ko yung gulong ko, talagang napakagaganda. Ayan o, P6,500 ang isa,” Decena said.</p><p>Based on a Joint Administrative Order No. 2014-01 issued in June 2014 by the then Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC), public utility jeepney (PUJs) with defective parts and accessories will be fined P5,000 for the first offense, P10, 000 and impounding of unit for 30 days for the second offense and up to P15, 000 for the 3rd offense and cancellation of the certificate of public convenience (CPC) where the unit is authorized.</p><p>The DOTr-SAICT official denied that this policy is anti-poor, as Delos Reyes stressed that the agency is just implementing the law.</p><p>&quot;Yung ating driver sila po yung natitiketan dahil sa mga violations. Pero yung pananagutan naman dapat dito ay don sa mga operator,&quot; he explained. &quot;Itong mga driver natin, nagba-boundary sa kanila ng tama.
