MANILA — Another lawmaker called for a House probe into issues in the services provided by Villar-owned PrimeWater, citing persistent complaints from consumers.In a privilege speech before the House plenary on Tuesday, Las Piñas City Rep. Mark Anthony Santos said the government “should not be afraid to revoke franchises or terminate contracts” if the concessionaires do not meet their obligations in the contract.“It is essential that PrimeWater meets its contractual obligations to provide clean and reliable water. In many cases, consumers have reported poor water quality, including dirty and brownish water. Despite paying their higher rates, it’s concerning that these issues persist,” he said.“Although the LWUA has completed its investigation and submitted recommendations to the President, I respectfully urge this House to also conduct a full-scale congressional inquiry into PrimeWater and other similar concessionaries,” Santos urged his colleagues.“We need to audit their performance, review their contracts, and most importantly, evaluate if privatized water systems are truly working for the people or against them,” he added.“It’s not just about water. This is about justice… and this is about putting people first… Ang tubig ay karapatan hindi negosyo. I call for accountability and reform the water service privatization,” Santos noted.Last July,  Zambales 1st District Representative Jefferson Khonghun filed House Resolution 22, directing the appropriate committee of the House of Representatives to conduct an inquiry in aid of legislation into alleged “issues and irregularities in the joint venture agreements”, and its impact on the water services.
