MANILA —  The Civil Service Commissions has issued a reminder to government officials and employees to “temper” money showering in traditional practices, after a viral video showing a governor participating in the traditional Kuratsa dance received criticisms for supposedly being lavish.“Hindi naman iwasan, timplahin natin… Temperance is the rule. Huwag sumosobra… ‘Yung tama lang,” CSC Chairperson Marilyn Yap said.“Off hand, walang circular (against it)...  On the other hand, mayron tayong mga restrictions in terms of conduct ng government officials, like say it may be construed as violating the rules on modest or simple living. ‘Di ba nakalagay rin sa civil code natin, walang ostentatious display of wealth. If it can be argued that it is there instead of being part of a cultural tradition, then it is defensible. Hindi ko pinagtatanggol pero siguro, kailangan nating unawain from that point of view,” she added.“Hindi ako nagde-defend ng nakikita ninyong baka hindi maganda. Pero if you look at the context, may pista yata sila and this is the traditional dance na Kuratsa for that area. And it is traditional that you throw bills,” Yap noted.Governor Sharee Ann Tan of Samar has explained that the footage was not taken during a &quot;lavish dinner&quot; or display of wealth, but during the &quot;Kuratsa&quot; performance in a community celebration.
