Ronald &quot;Bato&quot; dela Rosa on Monday urged his colleagues at the Senate to respect the ruling of the Supreme Court regarding the impeachment case of Vice President Sara Duterte.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/8/1/19-to-20-senators-may-vote-to-affirm-sc-ruling-on-vp-sara-impeachment-jinggoy-0939">19 to 20 senators may vote to &#x27;abide by&#x27; SC ruling on VP Sara impeachment: Jinggoy</a></div><p>The Supreme Court last month <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/7/25/supreme-court-duterte-impeachment-articles-unconstitutional-1601">declared as unconstitutional the articles of impeachment against Duterte</a>, ruling that the House violated the constitutional rule that bars the filing of more than one complaint in a year.</p><p>The high court also held that a fresh impeachment complaint against the Vice President could only be filed in February 2026.</p><p>But some legal experts, constitutional <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/8/1/congress-constitutional-authority-over-impeachment-should-be-respected-up-law-faculty-1535">law professors</a>, and several groups argued that the Supreme Court had erred in its ruling, which they described as judicial overreach because it laid out new rules that weaken the accountability mechanism of an impeachment.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/6/10/bato-raises-alleged-legal-infirmities-in-sara-duterte-impeachment-1720">Bato moves to dismiss Sara Duterte impeachment case</a></div><p>Some senators are also passing around a draft resolution seeking to push through with the Senate impeachment trial of Duterte, as they believe that the Supreme Court ruling should only be applied to future impeachment cases.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/7/31/draft-senate-resolution-urges-sc-to-apply-ruling-on-impeachment-only-to-future-cases-1833">Draft Senate resolution urges SC to apply ruling on impeachment only to future cases</a></div><p>Dela Rosa, a staunch Duterte ally, vowed in a statement that he will not sign the resolution, saying that while he is not a lawyer, he knows how to respect and follow Supreme Court rulings.</p><p>“Hindi ako abogado pero marunong akong rumespeto at sumunod sa hatol ng Korte Suprema kaya hindi niyo ako mapapapirma sa isang resolusyon na kumukwestyon nito,” Dela Rosa said when asked about the resolution.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>&#x27;NOT RETROACTIVE&#x27;</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>Meanwhile, Quezon City 6th District Rep.
