Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News/File </span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — Vice President Sara Duterte’s office on Wednesday said its work continues despite the upcoming debates later in the day on whether the Senate would abide by the Supreme Court ruling that blocked her impeachment trial. </p><p>“Impeachment or no impeachment, the Office of the Vice President will work the same or even harder to fulfill the mandate of the office,&quot; said its spokesperson Ruth Castelo. </p><p>Asked about the OVP’s morale, she told reporters, “Pareho lang.” </p><p>“We don’t know what&#x27;s happening outside. Tuloy lang kung ano ang trabaho. That’s a standing order from the Vice President that whatever happens outside, politics, diretso lang focus lang on OVP,” Castelo said.</p><p>The Supreme Court in late July ruled that the case against Duterte violated a constitutional provision against multiple impeachment proceedings within a single year. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/8/5/what-to-expect-at-aug-6-senate-impeachment-debates-1730">What to expect at Aug 6 Senate impeachment debates</a></div><p>The high court said a new impeachment complaint against the Vice President could only be filed in February 2026.</p><p>The Senate is expected to tackle the SC ruling at 3 p.m. Wednesday. </p><p>Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada said last Friday that as many as <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/8/1/19-to-20-senators-may-vote-to-affirm-sc-ruling-on-vp-sara-impeachment-jinggoy-0939">19 to 20 senators </a>could vote to “abide by” the Supreme Court ruling.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/8/5/senators-urged-to-wait-for-sc-to-resolve-motion-on-vp-duterte-impeach-ruling-1140">&#x27;Bakit tayo nagmamadali?&#x27; Senators urged to wait for SC to resolve motion on VP Duterte impeach ruling</a></div><div><br/></div><div><strong>PROTEST </strong></div><div><br/></div><p>Meanwhile, various civil society organizations led by Tindig Pilipinas converged outside the Senate in Pasay City ahead of the impeachment debates. </p><p>“Ito po ay parte ng kilos protesta, mula Pebrero ang panawagan na po ng grupo natin dapat ang trial should proceed forthwith,” Tindig Pilipinas co-convenor Kiko Aquino said. </p><p>He said they hoped the Supreme Court would grant the motion for reconsideration of the House of Representatives. </p><p>“Ang intindi ko po, kapag may bagong argumento, kapag may bagong facts na binabanggit sa isang kaso, puwede naman talagang magbago ang isip ng hukom. So tayo po ay umaasa na talagang sa pagsusuri ng initial Supreme Court decision, may mga bagay na hindi kinonsider ang Korte Suprema at with due respect, yun po yung mga inilapit natin sa kanila,” Dee said. </p><p>“Ang panawagan, dinggin ang ebidensiya at magkaroon ng final decision. Dito sa Supreme Court, dinggin ang lahat ng argument, dinggin ang lahat ng ebidensiya, pati yung mga facts, arguments na ni-raised dito sa motion for reconsideration na mukhang hindi binigyang pansin noong unang desisyon ng Supreme Court,” he told reporters. </p><p>Protesters occupied about 2 lanes of the J.W.
