“May God have mercy on your decision.”This is how Senate Minority Leader Tito Sotto reacted Wednesday as 19 senators voted against his motion to archive Sen. Rodante Marcoleta’s motion to junk the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.Explaining his motion, Sotto said there is a need to wait for the Supreme Court to rule on the motion for reconsideration against the SC decision declaring the impeachment complaint as unconstitutional.He noted the Supreme Court made “clear and blatant errors” in its ruling after saying the 19th Congress adjourned sine die in February 5.He said the archiving of the first three impeachment complaints came after the initiation of the fourth complaint. “The one-year ban did not set in,” he said.He said the Supreme Court did not interpret the Constitution but amended it.Waiting for the SC ruling on the motion for reconsideration, he said, would allow the High Court to rectify these errors, which would benefit future impeachment processes“All we really needed to do was wait a little,” he said.Sotto said that while he knows he is voting in the minority, he knows his vote is right.Only 5 senators voted yes to his motion to table Marcoleta’s motion.
