MANILA — Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong on Friday resigned as the special adviser of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure, his staff confirmed, hours after Malacañang announced that his appointment is under review over alleged conflict of interest.Magalong submitted his resignation to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in a letter dated September 26, 2025.“The Palace’s pronouncements concerning my designation, which run contrary to the terms of my appointment have undermined the role and mandate entrusted to me,” the letter read.“Combined with circumstances that already cast doubt on the independence of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure, it has become clear that my continued service is no longer tenable,” it read.“I have not neglected nor will I ever neglect my primary responsibility to the people of Baguio, whose welfare and interests remain at the core of my public service.”Magalong’s was accused of possibly violating several laws that ban government officials from occupying two capacities at a time.Earlier this week, the construction of a P110-million tennis court and parking building in Baguio City drew controversy after documents showed that it was awarded to St. Gerrard Construction General Contractor and Development Corporation — one of the companies linked to Cezarah and Pacifico Discaya II, who are now at the center of the flood control project controversy.Magalong has asserted that “the actions of our Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) and implementing offices followed all legal procedures.”<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/9/26/magalong-s-ici-appointment-under-review-malaca-ang-1528">READ: Magalong’s ICI appointment under review: Malacañang</a></div>
