MANILA -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) has pulled back the police security detail assigned to Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co, who has left the country amid an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in flood control projects.PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño confirmed on Monday that the Police Security and Protection Group (PSPG) recalled the five police officers. &quot;Tinanggal nila &#x27;yung kanilang mga police security protection officers sapagkat ang SOP po dito kapag ang kanilang VIP ay nasa abroad niri-recall ang kanilang security detail,&quot; said Tuaño. He added that the PSPG is the sole unit authorized to deploy protective security for individuals with verified threats against their lives.Co has been implicated in a controversy involving supposed kickbacks from multi-billion peso flood control contracts under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). The former House Committee on Appropriations chair left the country last month reportedly to seek medical treatment in the United States.On Monday, the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) <a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/9/29/ici-recommends-filing-of-cases-against-zaldy-co-over-mindoro-flood-control-project-1411">recommended the filing of cases</a> at the Ombudsman against Co as well as other officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for alleged irregularities in a P290-M flood control projects in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro.
