Vidal/Senate PRIBAmid heightened calls for transparency in government, Health Secretary Teodoro J. Herbosa expressed willingness to release his Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN) and submit to a lifestyle check, but with certain reservations.</div>During the budget deliberations at the House of Representatives, Akbayan Partylist Representative Atty. Chel Diokno directed a question to Secretary Herbosa, asking if he would make his SALN public. “Would the Secretary of the Department be willing to take the lead and show a good example to the entire department by releasing his statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth as some of us in the house has done?” Diokno asked.Responding through DOH budget sponsor and Bataan 2nd District Representative Albert S. Garcia, Herbosa agreed to the request, provided that his personal information be kept confidential.“Willing po ang ating Kalihim to release, basta hindi lang kasama &#x27;yung mga personal information,” said Garcia.Diokno also suggested institutionalizing lifestyle checks within the DOH to align with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.&#x27;s directive for similar efforts in other departments.The DOH welcomed the suggestion, saying its officials and employees are willing to undergo such checks.The health department further disclosed the presence of its Integrity Management Committee, which works in coordination with the Office of the Ombudsman to conduct integrity, transparency, and accountability assessments.The committee covers monitoring for any signs of ill-gotten wealth or potential corrupt practices within the agency.Under Republic Act (RA) 6713, or the “Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees,” public officials and their families are mandated to:“Lead modest lives appropriate to their positions and income. They shall not indulge in extravagant or ostentatious display of wealth in any form.”The DOH reiterated its commitment to good governance through transparency and accountability.
