MANILA — A hostage-taking incident gripped Barangay 179, Amparo, Caloocan City on Monday after a supposed &quot;disgruntled security guard&quot; held three individuals captive inside their house.According to Northern Police District chief Brig. Gen. Jerry Protacio, the suspect reportedly barged into the residence of his neighbors and held hostage a 19-year-old woman, an 11-year-old boy, and their nanny.According to initial investigation, the suspect had been distressed over losing his job as a security guard. He allegedly demanded to be reinstated at work and asked that he be allowed to return home to Mindanao.Police are also looking into reports that he may have been under the influence of illegal drugs during the incident.Protacio said the suspect initially entered the house under the pretense of charging his phone before declaring a hostage situation.“At base sa pag-iimbestiga nga natin ay ang security guard ay pumasok doon sa bahay na halimbawa makikicharge lang tapos nagdeklara na na kanyang hino-hostage yung pamilya at dinala niya doon sa second floor yung mga biktima. At siya ay armado ng caliber 38 na baril at nagpaputok nga siya ano? At eh apat na putok eh nakuha nga tayong mga basyo sa 2nd floor,” Protacio said.Authorities were alerted after one of the victims managed to send a message to the suspect’s sibling and cousin. The suspect later demanded an Armalite rifle and a vehicle so he could return to Mindanao.After more than five hours of negotiations, police convinced him to free the siblings.“At nung mga bandang 12:30 eh sa maayos na pakikipag-usap, negosasyon natin ano. May mga tumulong din ang media sa atin ay na-hikayat natin na i-release yung dalawang ano biktima na hino-hostage na. Oo. Nung ni-release niya, tumakbo siya, paakyat uli at pumasok siya sa isang kwarto. At pagkakalaam namin meron pa siyang baril diyan,” Protacio added.However, when operatives tried to secure him, the suspect attacked.“So, pinasok namin ang kwarto dahil ayaw niyang sumuko ng mahinahon at ah sa pagpasok ng ating SWAT ay mayroon naman siyang patalim pala. Nasaksak nga ’yung ating pulis, ating isang personnel doon at ah nadala rin sa hospital. May tama po ng bala ’yung ating suspect dahil kailangang magdepensa ng ating SWAT, ng ating PNP personnel dahil tinamaan siya ng dalawang saksak sa dibdib,” Protacio said.The suspect was rushed to the hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds during the scuffle.
