Contributed video/screengrab/Darylle Sarmiento, ABS-CBN News</span></span></span></div><p>MANILA<strong> (UPDATE) </strong>— As demolition teams continue their clearing operations at the ICC Compound in Barangay Cupang, Muntinlupa City, resident Anthony Supresencia worries not just about losing his home, but also about where to hold the wake of his late mother.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/9/9/chaos-mars-icc-compound-demolition-in-muntinlupa-0736">Chaos mars ICC compound demolition in Muntinlupa</a></div><p>Supresencia&#x27;s mother passed away on Sunday. Her remains are currently laid out in their home, which is now among the houses slated for demolition after the land was reclaimed by its private owner.</p><p>“Nakiusap lang po ako sa nagdemolisyon at tska yung mataas sa kanila na kung maaari makapaglagak na muna ako ng burol ng nanay ko hanggang linggo lang po,&quot; he said.</p><p>He admitted he has nowhere else to bring his mother’s remains and could not afford to rent a chapel for the wake.</p><p>&quot;Dito muna habang di ginigiba kasi wala po talaga akong paglalagyan. Saan ko naman ilalagay? Sa kalsada?,&quot; he said.</p><p>Several residents have already moved out, while others were busy hauling their belongings and salvaging parts of their homes in hopes of reusing whatever materials they could.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>NO HELP FROM MAYOR?</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>For senior citizen Ellain Calalang, the demolition has been especially difficult with no relocation site or financial support.</p><p>&quot;Di man lang kami tinulungan ng aming Mayor. Wala pa po kaming pupuntahan. Wala namn po kaming pang upang pera. Hilong-hilo na po ako. Stress na stress na po ako,&quot; she said.</p><p>According to the ICC Compound&#x27;s Secretary Anna Limsiaco, around 4,000 families are living in the compound, which is made up of an estimated 200 structures.</p><p>Limsianco also appealed for fair relocation and financial assistance from the city government, questioning why only a portion of affected households were included in the aid program.</p><p>&quot;Bigyan kami ng relokasyon at tamang pinansyal po. At sana pantay, hindi yung ibang tao lang ang bibigyan niyo,&quot; she said.</p><p>&quot;Mayor, alam po namin lagi mo itong sinasabi, court order, wala pong magagawa pero po as Mayor, hindi po ako naniniwalang wala kayong magawa,&quot; she added.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>MAYOR RESPONDS</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>Mayor Ruffy Biazon, in response, said the city government has prepared financial assistance for affected families.</p><p>“Nakahanda yung financial assistance. Talagang P10,000 per household. Bagamat di naman kami party sa issue ng demolition, bahagi ng aming standard extension of assistance sa kababayan natin nag-undergo ng ganitong sitwasyon. Ang may obligasyon kasing magbigay sa kanila ng kompensasyon ay yung may-ari ng lupa na pribado,” Biazon said.</p><p>He added that only 151 residents who were part of the census qualified for assistance, but the city government extended help to more than 300 residents.</p><p>“So kung sino yung mga naisama sa survey na yun, yun yung mga nagka-qualify ng benefits for assistance,” he said.</p><p>Biazon also said that under the law, if no relocation site is provided within 45 days, financial compensation should be given, which is the responsibility of the landowner.</p><p>“On our part naman sa city government dahil &#x27;yan ay private property under question, hindi rin naman kami naka-prepare ng relocation site for them,” he said.</p><p>The Mayor clarified why he was not physically present during the demolition, saying he had earlier filed a motion to stay the execution of the court order.</p><p>“Kaya wala ako dun kasi sinabi ng korte. Kasi nag-file ako ng motion to stay the execution. Ginawa ko &#x27;yung legal measure na &#x27;yun at desisyon mismo ng korte nung dineny &#x27;yung petition ko, sinabi na kung ako ay lumabag dun sa kautusan na &#x27;yun, liable ako for Anti-graft and Corrupt Practices Act dahil lalabas na pinipigilan ko,&quot; he said.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>&#x27;STABLE&#x27; NOW</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>Meanwhile, according to the Muntinlupa PNP Public Information Office, the situation has already stabilized after residents voluntarily left the area. They said that some residents had thrown bottles, objects, and even Molotov cocktails on Monday.</p><p>A total of 32 people were reported injured during the demolition: 22 from the demolition team, 7 police officers, 2 residents, and 1 representative from the property owner.</p><p>Police said three individuals were arrested and are now facing inquest proceedings for physical injuries, direct assault, and resistance and disobedience to a person in authority.</p><p>They also clarified that the officer seen in a video standing on a rooftop with a firearm was a member of the SWAT team.</p><p>Police said he was deployed there only to maintain a vantage point after receiving reports that some unruly individuals inside the compound were allegedly carrying improvised firearms.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO</strong></div><div><br/></div><div><strong><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/bbgZZrhYtlM?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span></strong><br/></div>
