Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News</div>MANILA (UPDATE 2) — The image of Jesus Nazareno was brought back to the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno in Quiapo, Manila at 10:50 a.m. on Saturday, January 10.The traditional procession of the image around the city of Manila took more than 30 hours, having started at 4:00 a.m. from the Quirino Grandstand. Church and authorities estimated a total crowd turnout of 9,640,290 devotees. The traditional &quot;Dungaw&quot; — the solemn traditional ritual involving the images of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno and Our Lady of Mount Carmel of San Sebastian — happened at 4:35 a.m. on Saturday.The procession, or Traslacion, of the image would have ended at San Sebastian Church, where parish priest Fr. Jade Licuanan said the Cabeza, another replica image, would take its place. The announcement, which was unprecedented, did not go over well with the massive crowd of devotees, who seized the ropes of the andas to pull it toward Bilibid Viejo Street and back to its customary route.Medical teams recorded 1,057 medical cases, while three deaths were reported—two during the Traslacion itself and one during the traditional &quot;Pahalik&quot; at the Quirino Grandstand.Quiapo Church addressed the reported casualties, medical cases, and a supposed temporary halt of the procession during a press conference held around 6 a.m. on January 10. According to Traslacion 2026 spokesperson and Quiapo Church Parochial Vicar Fr. Robert Arellano, the intention was only to allow the procession to rest momentarily to avoid compromising the health of devotees and workers.&quot;Kailangan talaga nila ng pahinga para mas lalo nilang epektibong magawa yung kanilang mga tungkulin, kasi mga tao lamang tayo. May limitasyon ang ating katawan,&quot; Arellano said.He explained that the instruction to temporarily stay at San Sebastian may not have been clearly understood by devotees.&quot;Hindi siguro ganoong na-pick up ng mga mamamasan yung nasabi ni Father na ito ay panandaliang titigil sa San Sebastian. Arellano also clarified the figures on casualties, noting that not all reported deaths were directly related to the procession.&quot;At this point in time, we already have 1,700 medical cases, two of which it was confirmed death cases. Ramon Jade Licuanan admitted feeling sad and disappointed over what transpired at San Sebastian, where the Andas was expected to enter but was instead pulled back toward the route to Quiapo.&quot;I was excited until one approached me and said, ‘Sadly, Father, lumayo na po yung andas,&#x27;&quot; Licuanan said. &quot;Maybe very sad and disappointing. You feel humiliated and embarrassed. I don&#x27;t mind because I know God is in control.&quot;Despite this, Licuanan stressed the importance of reflection and evaluation following the event.&quot;I&#x27;d like to gather all the people involved here and have an honest evaluation and assessment, because I&#x27;m sure there&#x27;s something we can learn from this,&quot; he said.Some devotees initially reacted emotionally to reports that the andas might not return to Quiapo Church. Among them was Ria Parularan, a traditional healer and devotee from San Rafael, Bulacan, who said many were saddened upon hearing the news.&quot;Marami po talagang nalulungkot, nagrereklamo dahil hindi dito uuwi,&quot; Parularan said. &quot;Pero nakita niyo po ang lahat ng deboto, sila ang gumagawa ng paraan. Hindi ang pari ang magdedesisyon, ang mga deboto.&quot;She added that seeing the andas being pulled back toward the route on the LED wall at Plaza Miranda eventually eased the devotees&#x27; worries.As of 9:46 a.m. on January 10, the Andas had entered Villalobos Street, and by 9:58 a.m., it was still traversing the area.
