<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:960px;display:block" width="960"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/176819198650420250314-duterte-icc-medialdea-ICC-3_cropped_processed_by_imagy.jpg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left"><em>ICC handout</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — Former President Rodrigo Duterte’s defense team has submitted new medical evidence to the International Criminal Court (ICC) Pre-Trial Chamber I, while again requesting they grant his interim release, a document dated January 9 showed.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/12/2/sara-duterte-visits-father-rodrigo-at-the-hague-after-failed-release-bid-1343">Sara Duterte visits father Rodrigo at The Hague after failed release bid</a></div><p>According to the document signed by Duterte’s legal counsel Nicholas Kaufman, the medical information “sufficiently mitigates his capacity to actualise the statutory risk factors, such that his release to the State Party has expressed its willingness to receive him may not be contemplated.”</p><p>The medical evidence is said to be prepared by the Duterte camp’s own medical experts.</p><p>“Regarding the risk of flight; Mr Duterte lacks executive functioning, sustained planning capacity, rapid decision-making, physical stamina, and the ability to evade supervision.
