With each new connection, we make this year a greater affirmation of our nations shared journey towards a future we envision together,” Ambassador Endo said.“Regarded as the ‘golden age’ in our ties, Japan and the Philippines have built a strong relationship in recent years, supported by the friendship between our peoples and their shared values,” he added. Despite the changing international landscape and challenges in regional security, the envoy said Tokyo and Manila continue to be strategic partners.He also noted the country’s chairship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) this year, where high-level meetings are expected to yield positive outcomes. Aside from this, he said the Philippines “remains indispensable” in advocating for a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/1/10/japan-reaffirms-support-for-ph-sugarcane-industry-1807">Japan reaffirms support for PH sugarcane industry</a></div>“Building on our bilateral relations’ significant strides last year, we aim to deepen our cooperation, ensuring steady progress for our expanding ties in the year ahead,”  Ambassador Endo said.To mark the event, the Embassy of Japan mounted a Jazz Concert and Reception in Makati City last Jan. 20, co-hosted with the Japan Foundation, Manila and supported by JTI. First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos was also present in the event.
