Police nab 2 men in viral BGC wallet snatching case

MANILA - Police have arrested two men accused of snatching a wallet from a man in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), an incident that went viral on social media earlier this week, authorities said on Tuesday.The wallet snatching occurred at around 5:30 p.m. on Monday along 11th Avenue corner 40th Street in BGC, Taguig City. Dashcam footage showed the victim about to get into a car when he bent down to talk to the driver, unaware that two suspects were already closing in. Moments later, the suspects allegedly slipped the victim’s wallet out of his backpack and quickly fled the scene. The video of the incident spread online, prompting Taguig City police to immediately launch a manhunt.<div><a class="fr-green" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/7/11/bgc-releases-statement-on-pickpocketing-incident-1602">BGC releases statement on &#x27;pickpocketing incident&#x27;</a></div>According to the Taguig City Police, the suspects were arrested two days later during a foot patrol in Barangay Fort Bonifacio. Police said the two men were caught at around 1 p.m. while allegedly engaged in illegal gambling. “Habang ang ating kapulisan po ay nagka-conduct po ng foot patrol, dito po sa Zone 2 sa Fort Bonifacio ay may nakita po silang nagsusugal then, upon procedural search nakuhanan din po sila ng iligal na droga po,” said Police Captain Jowel Golimlim, Public Information Officer of the Taguig Police.Authorities seized gambling paraphernalia and bet money from the suspects. The suspects have undergone medical procedures and are now in police custody.They are set to face charges for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 (Illegal Gambling) and Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
