MANILA — The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) is investigating an incident along Commonwealth Avenue that authorities suspect may be part of a so-called “bangga-me” modus, where would-be scammers allegedly stage being hit by vehicles.The investigation was launched after a dashcam video of a pedestrian being hit by a motorcycle went viral.The incident occurred past 11 a.m. on Monday when traffic was flowing smoothly along Commonwealth Avenue.Based on the video, a man suddenly ran across the highway and was struck by an oncoming motorcycle. The pedestrian fell to the ground, while the motorcycle also toppled and was hit by another motorcycle following behind.Police said the pedestrian and the motorcycle rider sustained minor injuries. Both were brought to the Traffic Sector 5 office of the QCPD, where the parties later reached an amicable settlement.QCPD spokesperson Police Capt. Febie Madrid said the pedestrian initially asked the rider for financial assistance for medical expenses.“At sinabi ng rider na wala silang pera kaya noong nagkausap-usap, nag-agree sila na sila ay mag-settle, amicably settle at magkaroon ng kasunduan,” she added.Despite the settlement, QCPD said the case remains under investigation to determine whether the incident was part of a scam.“’Ito po ang tinitingnan ngayon kung ito ba ay modus o hindi, at kung mayroon man ay talagang iimbestigahan nila,” Madrid said.ABS-CBN News visited the area where the incident happened and observed that, despite the presence of nearby footbridges, some pedestrians still cross the highway at ground level.“Ang Commonwealth Avenue ay napakalawak na kalsada at ipinagbabawal po ang tumawid dito dahil ito po ay nakamamatay. Lagi po nating pinaaalalahanan ang mga pedestrian na gumamit po tayo ng footbridge o kaya underpass para maiwasan ang mga ganitong insidente,” Madrid stressed.QCPD also urged motorists who may have been involved in similar incidents to coordinate with authorities, as police are looking into whether the same individual or group may be behind the reported cases.
