Bea Cuadra, ABS-CBN News<br/></span></span></span>MANILA — Eight high-end luxury vehicles, valued at an estimated P145 million and linked to former Congressman Zaldy Co, are currently under government custody following a Bureau of Customs operation in Bonifacio Global City Thursday night, January 8.</div><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/1/8/authorities-seize-some-of-zaldy-co-s-luxury-vehicles-2016">Authorities seize alleged luxury vehicles of Zaldy Co</a></div><p>The vehicles were transferred to the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) compound in Taguig for temporary safekeeping after the BOC implemented a court-issued search warrant at a condominium parking facility. </p><p>The operation targeted a total of nine vehicles flagged for potential customs violations, including unpaid duties and taxes.</p><p>While authorities initially identified 17 vehicles of interest, nine were found to have specific violations. However, only eight are currently in custody. </p><p>BOC Deputy Chief of Staff Chris Bendijo explained that one vehicle managed to leave the premises before the raid was fully executed.</p><p>&quot;Ang nandito ay walo. Ibig sabihin meron isang hindi natin nadatnan doon sa condominium. Ating napag-alaman na ito ay natanggal sa parking facility nung kinaumagahan so hindi natin nadatnan nung tayo ay nag implement ng search warrant,&quot; Bendijo said.</p><p>Despite the missing unit, Bendijo noted that the condominium management was generally cooperative during the service of the warrant.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>&#x27;RED FLAGS&#x27;</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>The seized fleet includes a variety of SUVs and a luxury sedan, some of which raised additional concerns due to modification like “bulletproofing.” </p><p>Bendijo highlighted that the presence of advanced armor plating on some vehicles is being treated as a &quot;red flag.&quot;</p><p>&quot;Marami pa tayong nakikitang red flag dito kagaya ng pagkakaroon ng bulletproof ng kakaibang level ng bulletproofing na sa aming palagay ay mula sa ibang bansa so yan ay mga bagay na patuloy nating iimbestigahan,&quot; Bendijo said.</p><p>The total value of the eight vehicles is pegged at over P145 million, with the Rolls Royce topping the list due to its price and the added value of its bulletproofing.</p><p>According to the BOC, the vehicles are registered under companies associated with Co. </p><p>The bureau is currently coordinating with the ICI to verify the ownership of the specific parking slots and the condominium unit where the cars were discovered.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>LEGAL BASIS</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>Regarding the legal basis for the seizure, Bendijo clarified that the action was taken after a thorough system check.</p><p>&quot;Nag-apply tayo ng search warrant sa korte upang tingnan ang 9 na sasakyan... sa ating pagsusuri ay ito ay hindi nakitaan ng kaukulang record sa ating system sa BOC kung kaya’t ating nakumbinsi ang korte na mag-issue ng kaukulang search warrant,&quot; he explained.</p><p>The owner/s will be given a chance to prove the legality of paying taxes. </p><p>&quot;Dadaan pa din tayo sa proseso, may posibilidad kagaya nung mga previous na forfeitures natin [na] kapag hindi napatunayan ang kaukulang duties and taxes ay ito ay masu-subject to forfeiture proceedings ng ating pamahalaan...
