Nicolas Tucat, AFP/File" width="960"/>A man holds a portrait of former Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte in front of the International Criminal Court (ICC) where he will be appearing, in The Hague on March 14, 2025. Nicolas Tucat, AFP/File</div>MANILA -- The Pre-Trial Chamber I of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has cleared the way for both the prosecution and the defense to introduce new pieces of evidence in the case against former Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.The decision, issued Tuesday, comes as the court prepares for the &quot;confirmation of charges&quot; hearing scheduled to begin on February 23, 2026.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/2/7/duterte-s-defense-seeks-to-add-78-items-on-its-list-of-evidence-1636">READ: Duterte&#x27;s defense seeks to add 78 items on its list of evidence</a></div>In a ruling signed by Presiding Judge Iulia Antoanella Motoc, the Chamber granted a request from former President Duterte&#x27;s defense team to add 78 items to their formal list of evidence. Simultaneously, the Prosecution received authorization to include two additional items of their own.The court noted that the decision was reached after both sides reached an agreement. According to the document, the Prosecution confirmed through ‘inter partes&#x27; communications that it did not object to the defense&#x27;s 78 new items, while the defense similarly agreed not to oppose the Prosecution&#x27;s two new filings.The Common Legal Representatives of Victims (CLRV) also informed the court that they do not oppose the additional evidence.In justifying the inclusions, the Chamber cited the &quot;limited extent of the requested additions&quot; and their &quot;relevance to the charges brought against the suspect.&quot;The judges ruled that there was a &quot;good cause to grant such requests without causing undue prejudice to either party,&quot; ensuring that both sides can present a more comprehensive set of materials when they face the Chamber later this month.If the charges are confirmed, the case will move toward a full trial.As a result of Tuesday&#x27;s ruling, the Chamber has ordered both the Defense and the Prosecution to file their updated, final lists of evidence &quot;by no later than 13 February 2026.&quot;
