Conti says PH justice system 'not ideal' for EJK trials

MANILA -- International Criminal Court (ICC) Assistant to Counsel Atty. Kristina Conti said it is not easy to pursue justice for extrajudicial killing cases in the country.This came after Sen. Bam Aquino said in a separate media interview that it is “ideal” to hold the trials and seek justice in the Philippines.&quot;Nagsubok na po kami, naka-ilan po kami ng filing ng mga kaso, ng mga criminal cases. Ako nga, bente yung tinutukan ko. Naka-anim po kaming file sa Ombudsman, sa anim, tatlo ang medyo positive. Sa tatlong positive, isa lang ang nakarating sa korte. Kaya parang dadaan ka talaga sa butas ng karayom,&quot; Conti explained in a DZMM interview on Wednesday.&quot;Yung sinasabi ni Sen. Bam is correct, but also wrong on another note. Nilahat kasi niya yung EJK cases. Nilahat niya na parang, as if they constitutes crimes against humanity. Ang crimes against humanity ay maraming panig, mayroong direct perpetrator, and may indirect co-perpetrator,&quot; Conti added.Conti also mentioned that the ICC is responsible for holding all perpetrators accountable in the said cases, including direct perpetrators and indirect co-perpetrators.Former President Rodrigo Duterte was identified as the direct perpetrator in the case and is now at the ICC in The Hague, Netherlands, awaiting trial.Meanwhile, the eight co-perpetrators named by the ICC prosecution are:<ol><li>Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa</li><li>Senator Bong Go</li><li>Former justice secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II</li><li>Former police chief Oscar Albayalde</li><li>Former National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) chief Dante Gierran</li><li>Former Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency chief Isidro Lapeña</li><li>Former police chief Vicente Danao</li><li>The late former police chief Camilo Cascolan</li></ol>&quot;Sen. Bato Dela Rosa has to be tried before the ICC as co-perpetrator. Hindi ko papakawalan &#x27;yan,&quot; Conti said.Meanwhile, she said she is curious about the evidence of the ICC prosecution as to why Sen. Bong Go was included in the list.&quot;Hinihintay ko yung February 23, kung ito nga bang role ni Bong Go ay mukhang cerebral o discretion [sa EJK cases],&quot; she said.Conti has previously said that she expects the ICC to issue warrants against Dela Rosa, Go, and the others.
