Marcos said this should apply to “all branches of government.”</p><p>“In the private sector, if you don’t show up for work, it’s taken from your salary. It should be the same case here in Congress and to be honest, for all branches of government na kung hindi ka nagpapakita, if there is absenteeism on your part, then you should not be allowed to collect the salary because you have not put in any work,” Representative Marcos said on Wednesday.</p><p>The lawmaker clarified he is not “singling anyone out” with the proposed measure.</p><p>When asked about the bill in relation to Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, Rep. Marcos said he is &quot;not singling anyone out.&quot;</p><p>&quot;I think this is just the right step forward for the legislature as an institution. It&#x27;s no secret that there have been cases of absenteeism and people not showing up to committee hearings or joining debates on the floor. And you know, generally, the more people debate on legislation, the better quality legislation is produced,&quot; he added.</p><p>Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson earlier said Dela Rosa’s salary release may be suspended due to prolonged absence.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/1/28/dela-rosa-s-salary-may-be-withheld-due-to-continued-absence-lacson-1109">No work, no pay? Marcos also defended the bill he filed proposing the abolition of travel tax following Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Frasco saying travel tax provides benefits to Filipinos.</p><p>Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) has an “abysmal reputation in terms of absorptive capacity,” the congressman said, adding that funding allocated to TIEZA is “hardly used as efficiently as possible.</p><p>TIEZA is among agencies funded by travel tax collection.</p><p>“I think the multiplier in terms of the economic effects that the abolition of travel tax will have will be much higher than that of the TIEZA allocating the funds that the travel tax goes to for projects that haven&#x27;t necessarily had the highest impact,” Rep. Marcos told reporters.</p><p>According to the House majority leader, Department of Finance (DOF) Secretary Frederick Go assured him they will find other sources of funding for programs for higher education that presently benefit from travel tax.</p><p>Senate Majority Leader Migz Zubiri also said he would be Rep. Marcos’ counterpart in the upper chamber in filing a bill, according to the congressman.</p><p>“Nag-usap din kami ni Majority Leader Migz Zubiri kaninang umaga, and he will be my counterpart in the Senate to file the bill also– I believe today or tomorrow. And next week, next Tuesday, him and I will both push for the inclusion of the bill abolishing the travel tax in the LEDAC priorities. So hopefully magiging prayoridad na ‘yan ni Pangulo, and we will make sure to pass it as soon as possible,” Rep. Marcos said.</p>
