MANILA - The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) continues to monitor port operations across the country as Tropical Depression Basyang affects sea travel, leaving thousands of passengers stranded, authorities said on Friday.PCG spokesperson Captain Noemie Cayabyab said the Coast Guard is currently monitoring 83 ports nationwide, including vessels and motorbancas that have sought shelter due to rough sea conditions. “As we speak po 83 ports pa rin po ang ating minomonitor ngayon at meron po tayong naitalang out of dun sa 83 ports po kasama po doon yung mga minomonitor nating vessels or motorbancas that are now taking shelter. 7,258 ang stranded passengers,” Cayabyab said.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/weather-traffic/2026/2/6/-basyang-makes-third-landfall-over-dauis-bohol-1732">Basyang makes third landfall over Dauis, Bohol </a> </div>Based on PCG data, areas with the highest number of stranded passengers include Central Visayas, particularly Bohol and Cebu.“Well ang nakikita natin, yung mga ports, we have 800. yung total na area na medyo malaki yung mga stranded na passengers ay particularly sa may area ng Bohol at Cebu. We have 1,153. Based naman sa regulation ng Coast Guard ang area na panggagalingan at dadaraanan at pupuntahan ay may nakataas pa rin pong signal, definitely cancelled po ang lahat ng sea trips natin pero once na ma-lift naman po yan at gumanda naman po ang sea conditions, we allow them naman na magproceed po sa kani-kanilang mga ports,” Cayabyab said.Cayabyab said the Coast Guard is closely coordinating with local government units, the Philippine Ports Authority, and shipping companies to ensure assistance is provided to stranded passengers even before the storm made landfall. It has also been conducting pre-emptive evacuations and providing assistance in several areas affected by the storm. These efforts include evacuating stranded passengers in Bacolod City and Siquijor, as well as supporting clearing operations in Surigao City.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/weather-traffic/2026/2/6/basyang-makes-second-landfall-over-bohol-1426">Basyang makes second landfall over Bohol</a></div>“Well as to efforts naman ng Coast Guard, bukod doon sa ating mga isinagawang pre-emptive evacuation, sa iba’t ibang lugar. Kasama yung pag-eevacuate ng ilang stranded passengers sa may Bacolod City at Siquijor, nagbigay din tayo ng assistance sa pagco-conduct ng clearing operations dyan sa may Surigao City,” she said. The PCG also advised the public to postpone non-essential travel and urged fishermen to avoid going out to sea until weather conditions improve.“Unang una ko sa mga nagbabalak pong umalis at umuwi sa kanilang mga probinsya, kung hindi naman po ganun kaimportante ay ipagpaliban po muna natin para maiwasan na mastranded sa mga pantalan at masiguro ang inyong kaligtasan,” Cayabyab said.“Pagdating naman po sa ating mga mangingisda ang pakiusap natin ay huwag munang maglayag habang hindi pa po bumubuti ang panahon at parati po tayong magcheck ng mga weather advisories from PAGASA at sundin ang mga direktiba ng ating mga local na awtoridad para maiwasan ang anumang insidente sa karagatan,” she added.
