The Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide on Friday, March 20, said the government’s P5,000 cash aid is a significant help for public transport drivers, but stressed that it is only a short-term measure.“Ang ibibigay nilang subsidy ay makakatulong… Malaking bagay din ang limang libong piso. Pero ito ay lalamunin lamang ng patuloy na pagtaas ng presyo ng petrolyo,” PISTON President Mody Floranda said.“Hindi po natin kailangan ‘yung maiksing solusyon; ang kailangan natin ‘yung mahabang solusyon,” he added.The transport group urged the government to remove the excise tax on petroleum products, scrap the Oil Deregulation Law and implement other measures to reduce fuel costs.“Kaya nga sinasabi namin, dapat tanggalin ang buwis sa produktong petrolyo, pag-basura ng Oil Deregulation Law, at sa Excise Tax, dahil kapag naalis natin ang halos P17 na nakapatong sa bawat litro, katumbas niyan ay pagbaba ng bilihin,” Ka-Mody said.Piston has extended its nationwide strike today to voice out the struggles of drivers due to the continued surge in fuel prices.
