MANILA – The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) on Monday urged motorists to remain patient and prioritize road safety as a surge in travelers is expected ahead of the Holy Week and summer vacation. Authorities said traffic volume is projected to increase significantly as families begin traveling to provinces and tourist destinations. Data from the PNP-HPG showed that between March 30 and May 30 last year, a total of 35,985 road crash incidents were recorded nationwide. Most of these involved motorcycles, with overspeeding and human error cited as leading causes.  “Tuloy-tuloy ‘yung cooperation natin with LGU and other local police para maiwasan ‘yung mga ganitong accident. Shared responsibility ito, cooperation ng ating mga kasama at mga nagmamaneho,” HPG deputy director for operations PCol. Bernard Marzal said. He reminded motorists to plan their trips ahead of time to avoid peak travel hours, which can lead to congestion and, in some cases, road rage.“Usually human error, avoid traveling ng pagod, fatigue or nakainom. ‘Yon ang cause minsan ng accident,” Marzal said.Motorists were advised to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before heading out.Despite concerns over oil supply, the PNP-HPG assured the public that its operations remained fully functional, with increased police visibility and response teams deployed along major highways.The PNP has mobilized 59,416 personnel nationwide to secure the expected influx of travelers. This includes 39,540 police officers, 5,185 augmentation forces, and 14,691 members of advocacy groups during the Holy Week period. Authorities also noted that reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property remainsdthe most common crime, particularly involving tourists. PCapt.
