Agatha Gregorio, ABS-CBN News</span></span></span></div><div><br/></div><p>MANILA<strong> (UPDATE) </strong>— Representatives of women’s organizations filed an ethics complaint on Thursday against Quezon City 4th District Representative Bong Suntay over “sexist” and “inappropriate” remarks against actress Anne Curtis made during a House Committee on Justice meeting on Tuesday. </p><p>Koalisyong Makabayan President and former lawmaker Liza Maza, GABRIELA National Alliance National chairperson Gert Libang, Gabriela Youth spokesperson Fran Reyes, and Kilusan ng Manggagawang Kababaihan (KMK) spokesperson Jacq Ruiz were the complainants.</p><p>They accused Suntay of violating various laws, including the Magna Carta of Women.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/3/4/women-s-panel-chair-wants-suntay-s-lewd-remarks-sent-to-house-ethics-committee-1932">Lawmakers push for ethics review over Suntay&#x27;s lewd remarks about Anne Curtis</a></div><p><strong></strong>“Sa tingin namin walang lugar ang ganitong kondukta ng isang halal na opisyales ng gobyerno na mataas pa naman ang kanyang posisyon… At kailangan na siya patawan ng disciplinary action ng Kongreso mismo,” Maza told the media after filing the complaint.</p><p>Gabriela party-list Rep. Sarah Elago was present at the filing to show support for the complaint and to call for accountability</p><p>The House of Representatives on Wednesday night ordered an ethics investigation into Suntay&#x27;s controversial remarks on Curtis, which some lawmakers have condemned as disrespectful toward women.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/3/5/house-orders-ethics-probe-into-suntay-remarks-0803">House orders ethics probe into Suntay remarks</a></div><p>During the Tuesday deliberations of the House Committee on Justice, Suntay defended Vice President Sara Duterte’s past statement that she “imagined” herself “cutting” the head of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Suntay said he himself experienced having “desire” upon seeing Curtis in public, but he could only “imagine” what could happen.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>COMMUNITY SERVICE, SUSPENSION</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>Maza suggested subjecting Suntay to punishments such as suspension or community service with work that some women do at home, such as feeding children.</p><p>Paying a penalty, which would then be given to women’s organizations, was among Maza’s suggestions.</p><p>For Maza, there is a need for Suntay to study the law, instead of saying he does not need gender sensitivity training. The Quezon City lawmaker earlier said it was “uncalled for” for people to be asking him to undergo training on gender sensitivity.</p><p>“Ang isa na dapat gawin ay pag-aralan niya ‘yung batas, hindi ‘yung nagmamalaki pa siya hindi niya nakailangan ng gender sensitivity training. Pag-aralan niya ang batas kasi mambabatas siya. Dapat dahil mambabatas ka, dapat mas mabigat ang kaparusahan na dapat igawad ng Kongreso sa kanya,” Maza said.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>STRENGTHEN LAWS ON WOMEN</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>Elago also mentioned a challenge for Congress to prioritize the strengthening of measures to protect women.</p><p>“Dagdag pa diyan, ito kasing House of Representatives, mayroon din po tayong sinusulong na isama ‘yung public officials sa Bawal Bastos law. Ang coverage kasi ng Bawal Bastos law– may malinaw ‘yan na pamantayan sa government employees na may administrative sanctions. Paano naman kung ‘yung mga tao sa kapangyarihan, ang mga public officials– elected man o appointed– paano ‘pag sila na mismo ‘yung nagbitaw nitong mga sexist and misogynistic remarks?” Elago asked.</p><p>“Kaya ‘yan ang challenge sa Kongreso. Bigyang priority hindi lang itong pagpapalakas ng Bawal Bastos law kundi lahat ng mga pagpapalakas ng proteksyon sa mga kababaihan,” Elago added.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>‘NOT SINCERE’</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>Suntay earlier said sorry to those who were <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/3/4/suntay-tells-anne-curtis-no-malice-in-nag-init-remark-1234">hurt </a>by his remarks.</p><p>But that statement was met with backlash from Maza, who found it to be lacking in sincerity.</p><p>“Mukhang hindi naman siya sinsero eh kasi hindi niya binawi ‘yung sinasabi niya na dapat i-treat ni Ms. Curtis na compliment ‘yung kanyang sinabi...
