MANILA — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is in talks with drivers over the transport strike from April 15 to 17, according to LTFRB Chairman Vigor Mendoza.Mendoza added, they are prepared for the nationwide strike, but they are hoping drivers would no longer “add” to problems.“Handa naman tayo diyan parati. Mayroon tayong nakaabang na mga sasakyan… Kinakausap natin sila. Humihinto na ho kusa ang mga driver natin sa taas po ng presyo ng petrolyo… Ito’y hindi lamang problema ng ating bansa. Ito po’y pandaigdigang problema,” Martin told reporters.Alliance of Transport Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines National President Melencio Vargas, meanwhile, said passengers would suffer from the “tigil pasada.”“Sino ang pahihirapan natin? Mukhang ang pahihirapan na natin ay ‘yung ating pasahero, ‘yung mga commuters na dapat po hindi natin sila pahirapan. Dapat mahalin natin sila dahil ‘yan po ‘yung pinagkikitaan namin,” Vargas said.With a P20 per liter cut in diesel confirmed this week, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez said he hopes this is the start of a trend towards lower fuel prices.“Sana tuluy-tuloy na, at ang pagbaba naman ng langis, ang makikinabang diyan ay buong sambayanan,” Lopez said.
