MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday reported a steady decline in the number of ordinance violators in Metro Manila following the launch of the Safer Cities Initiative of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/4/18/alamin-safe-cities-initiative-ng-dilg-1933">ALAMIN: Safer Cities Initiative ng DILG</a></div>PNP data showed that violators dropped from 11,742 recorded on April 6 to 6,514 on April 19.According to PNP spokesperson PBGen. Randulf Tuaño, the downtrend reflects increasing public awareness and compliance with local ordinances.“Mapapansin natin ang mataas na compliance ng ating mga kababayan o residente sa Metro Manila sa pagbaba na cases na naitala natin kahapon,” Tuaño said.He noted that most violations were recorded in the areas of the Northern Police District and the Southern Police District, with more than 1,600 cases each, followed by the Quezon City Police District with over 1,400 cases.Tuaño added that the most common violation remains drinking alcohol and smoking in public places.“Base na rin sa mga nakakausap natin, especially ang ating mga district directors, nakikita nila na maganda ang pagtaas ng compliance sa mga kababayan. Mas marami ang natutuwa sa implementation ng ating Safer Cities Initiative kumpara sa mga unang nagreklamo,” he said.The PNP earlier said it continues to monitor compliance and encourage the public to follow local ordinances as part of efforts to maintain order and safety in urban communities.
