<p>The spotlight has turned to Vice President Sara Duterte’s declared wealth as the impeachment proceedings against her bring renewed scrutiny over her finances, assets, and transactions.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/4/22/third-house-impeachment-hearing-focuses-on-sara-duterte-s-wealth-0800" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>Sara Duterte&#x27;s alleged unexplained wealth is focus of 3rd House impeachment hearing</strong></a></div><p>Here is a closer look at her Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN) from 2016 to 2024.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>Rising net worth</strong></div><p>From her time as Davao City mayor through her vice presidency, Duterte’s declared net worth increased steadily over the years.</p><p>The annual jump in her net worth was the highest in 2017 when it rose by 28%, from P34.9 million in 2016 to P44.8 million in 2017. Other annual notable increases were in 2021, by 15%, and in 2024, by 14%.</p><p>Her net worth more than doubled to P71.66 million by 2022, after two terms as mayor and upon assuming the vice presidency. Her declared net worth continued to grow, reaching P88.51 million in 2024, her latest SALN.</p><p>Her assets followed a similar trajectory. Declared real properties more than doubled from P30.55 million in 2016 to P66.81 million in 2024. </p><p>Personal properties also increased significantly, rising from P11.30 million to P31.65 million over the same period.</p><div> </div><div><strong>Bulk of her real assets is in Davao</strong></div><p>In her 2024 SALN, Duterte declared P66.81 million in real property, which accounted for the largest share of her P88.51 million net worth – roughly about three-fourths of her total declared wealth.</p><p>As her 2024 SALN would show, Duterte bought properties every year from 2013 to 2024, save for 2020 and 2021. In most of the years she made purchases, she bought two properties a year, but in 2014 and 2023, she bought three.</p><p>Of the 29 properties she had accumulated over the years, only three are in Metro Manila: a P7-million condominium unit in Quezon City, a P2-million condominium unit in Mandaluyong City acquired in “1999/2012,” and a P7-million residential house and lot in a named city but redacted in the public SALN.</p><p>The rest of her real assets are in Davao City and the Island Garden City of Samal, consisting of both residential and agricultural properties.</p><p>From 2016 to 2021, Duterte acquired nine real properties worth a total of almost P23.78 million. Among the most notable were a residential house in Davao City valued at almost P8.53 million and a house and lot in Samal worth P5 million. </p><p>From 2022 to 2024, during her term as vice president, she declared an additional P18.35 million in real property acquisitions. This includes a P10-million residential lot in Davao City, the most expensive single property listed in her 2024 SALN.</p><p>From 2016 to 2023, some of the properties she declared in her SALNs were attributed to her husband, Manases Carpio.</p><div> </div><div><strong>Properties under trust, donated</strong></div><p>In 2023, she declared a P4.4-million worth of house construction in Samal and a P3.4 million donated piece of land in Davao City at current market prices.</p><p>She also declared properties of her children with an acquisition cost indicated as “trust.” These properties were acquired in 2017 and 2020.</p><p>In her 2023 SALN, the 2017 trust property had a fair market value of P3.9 million, while the one in 2020 was valued at P3.2 million.</p><div> </div><div><strong>Lumped entries on personal properties</strong></div><p>Unlike earlier SALNS that detailed personal assets such as vehicles, motorcycles, and cash, Duterte’s 2024 filing grouped her P31.65 million worth of personal properties into broader categories, including motor vehicles, “others,” and “various,” with acquisition dates listed as “various years.”</p><p>Because of such declarations, lawmakers in the April 22 hearing said Duterte did not disclose her cash on hand and in bank from 2019 to 2024. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/4/22/ombudsman-sara-duterte-saln-house-panel-impeachment-1050" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>Sara Duterte SALNs from 2019 to 2024 had no declared cash on hand, bank deposits</strong></a></div><p>In a press conference, Duterte’s legal counsel, Atty. Michael Poa, said her cash and bank deposits were “lumped” under “others” or “other personal properties” in her SALNs.</p><div><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ths4ziLMBtc" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>VP Sara Duterte&#x27;s defense team addresses &#x27;unexplained wealth&#x27;, Trillanes allegations</strong></a></div><div> </div><div><strong>Fluctuating loans</strong></div><p>From 2016 to 2024, Duterte’s declared liabilities fluctuated over time. </p><p>In 2016, when Duterte was the mayor of Davao City, she declared P6.95 million in liabilities, due to housing loans and amortizations for lots and vehicles. This declined to P6.31 million in 2017 and P6.12 million in 2018, before dropping more sharply to P3.46 million in 2019.</p><p>The downward trend in her liabilities continued in 2020, when they fell to P2.49 million, the lowest since 2016.</p><p>From 2021 to 2024, her liabilities were declared under the name of her husband, including the P9.95 million in liabilities in 2024, which was the highest level recorded in her SALNs.</p><div> </div><div><strong>Most businesses are under the husband&#x27;s name</strong></div><p>Duterte’s SALN disclosures also show shifts in the number of businesses she declared over time. </p><p>In 2016, her SALN listed nine business interests, including seven where she was named as an incorporator or stockholder. Five of these nine were marked either “for dissolution” or “closed,” including two where her husband was identified as an incorporator or sole owner.</p><p>The number steadily declined in the succeeding years, falling to seven in 2017 and four each from 2018 to 2020. Among the four is the non-profit Tapang At Malasakit Alliance for the Philippines, Inc.</p><p>Beginning in 2021, the number of her and her husband’s business interests rose again, reaching eight in 2021, 11 in 2023, and 10 in 2024. However, the majority of her newly listed businesses were listed under Carpio&#x27;s name.</p>
