<p>MANILA — Kangkong (water spinach), eggplant, and pechay (Chinese cabbage) were the vegetables given on Thursday in a community pantry in Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City to drivers affected by soaring prices of petroleum products.</p><p>The help may be simple, but the drivers who received these were grateful.</p><p>According to jeepney driver Mardonio Sison, “Ilang piraso ng tokwa puwede mo nang igisa ito, makakatulong na sa pamilya mo.”</p><p>He said he only gets to bring home P250 or if lucky, P350 a day.</p><p>Tricycle driver Niel Katoliko was also thankful for the pantry.</p><p>“Maganda na ito, pangkain,” Katoliko said. “Ang hirap ngayon ang taas na ng gasolina… Mabuti kung makakauwi ng dalawangdaan isang araw.”</p><p>This is the fourth time the community pantry was set up in Barangay Commonwealth. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/3/27/qc-commuters-suffer-as-less-jeepneys-ply-routes-due-to-fuel-cost-0856"><strong>QC commuters suffer as fewer jeepneys ply routes due to fuel cost<br/></strong></a></div><p>Most of the volunteers are students who not only give their time, but sometimes even their money, to help.</p><p>Graduating college student Ben Salazar is one of the volunteers who help in order to give back to drivers.</p><p>“Kung hindi po dahil sa kanila hindi po kami makakarating sa paroroonan,” Salazar said. “Kaya yun po yung nagbibigay sa’min ng strength na mas magbigay pa po sa kanila and tumulong.”</p><p>Michelle Morales, an organizer of the Payatas Community Pantry, said their resources are limited, but it is not a reason to stop.</p><p>“Mabigat sa pakiramdam mo na nakikita mong may kakayahan ka pero hindi mo titnutulungan yung mga tao na nangangailangan sa paligid mo,” Morales told ABS-CBN News.</p><p>“Hangga’t kaya mong tumulong sa ibang tao, kaya mong ibigay yung resources mo or yung time mo, ibigay mo,” she added.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO</strong></div><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/9EXD6UIn31g?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div>
