Angie de Silva, ABS-CBN News</div>MANILA -- Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano on Tuesday said they will convene the impeachment court &quot;forthwith&quot; for the articles of impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.&quot;We won&#x27;t delay. We won&#x27;t delay. There&#x27;s no reasons, &#x27;di ba?&quot; Cayetano said.The House of Representatives voted to impeach Duterte on Monday, with 257 of the 316 members supporting the impeachment complaints on the grounds of alleged misuse of confidential funds, unexplained wealth, and supposed assassination plot against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/5/11/-2nd-eye-ok-house-impeaches-sara-duterte-again-1702">READ: In 257-25-9 vote, House impeaches Sara Duterte</a></div>Earlier on the same day, <a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/5/11/cayetano-replaces-sotto-as-senate-president-1539">Cayetano replaced Sen. Vicente &quot;Tito&quot; Sotto III as Senate president</a>. In his speech as the new Senate president, Cayetano said that the leadership change had nothing to do with the vice president&#x27;s impeachment.&quot;The country needs us in other capacities,&quot; Cayetano said. &quot;So the longer this drags out, the more &#x27;yung attention natin nandiyan. But it&#x27;s such an important accountability process, so we will give it [our] full attention.&quot;Cayetano says the articles of impeachment will be referred to the Rules Committee once received by the Senate.&quot;There won&#x27;t be delays,&quot; he assured. &quot;But I don&#x27;t know what time ire-receive.&quot;The new Senate President will call an all-member caucus to discuss the path forward for the impeachment as well as other items on their agenda. Meanwhile, Cayetano also said that there is still no word on the majority leadership in the Senate. Senator Joel Villanueva was majority leader to both Senate Presidents Miguel Zubiri and Francis Escudero.
