MANILA — Senator Panfilo Lacson on Tuesday said the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee’s findings on alleged anomalies in flood control projects would not go to waste despite the latest leadership change in the chamber.Lacson said the committee under his leadership has contributed to the case buildup efforts of the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Office of the Ombudsman through testimonial and documentary evidence gathered during the probe.“Our findings would not go to waste. First of all, we already contributed to the preliminary investigation of the Department of Justice and Office of the Ombudsman, through testimonial and documentary evidence,” Lacson said in an interview on DZMM radio on Tuesday.Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon also said on Monday that the Executive branch, together with the Office of the Ombudsman, will continue pursuing accountability in the flood control scandal despite the leadership shake-up in the Senate.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/5/6/lacson-no-single-overall-mastermind-in-flood-control-scam-1652">Lacson: No single ‘overall mastermind’ in flood control scam</a></div>Senator Allan Peter Cayetano was elected Senate president on Monday following the ouster of Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, with 13 affirmative votes, nine negative votes, and two abstentions.The senator noted that the contents of the chairman’s progress report have already become part of the public record after he disclosed them in a privilege speech on May 5.Lacson said the updated findings may now be formally transmitted to the DOJ and Ombudsman to aid in their investigation and possible filing of cases.He added that he had already ordered the transmittal of evidence to both agencies.Lacson earlier explained that he initially refrained from publicly disclosing the evidence because doing so before a privilege speech could violate Senate rules. The senator also reminded his colleagues, including those allegedly linked to the flood control controversy, of their “shared responsibility” to sign the partial committee report so it could be tackled on the Senate floor.Lacson had suspended further committee hearings on the flood control scandal until the partial committee report reached plenary.He said that unless there is a committee report, continuing the hearings would be “pointless and contrary to Senate rules.”Lacson is pushing for abolition of &quot;allocables,&quot; leadership fund amid flood control probeAs of writing, Lacson and fellow Senators Bam Aquino, Risa Hontiveros and Kiko Pangilinan have signed the report.According to Lacson, the plenary discussion of the Blue Ribbon Committee’s partial report would also give implicated senators an opportunity to defend themselves.The remarks came a day after a dramatic leadership change in the Senate that saw a reorganization of key positions ahead of major political proceedings in the chamber.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/5/11/cayetano-replaces-sotto-as-senate-president-1539">Cayetano is new Senate president, replacing Sotto</a></div>
