Malacañang has yet to give the details of their conversation<em>. 📷 PCO via Katrina Domingo, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA <strong>(UPDATE)</strong> — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed South China Sea and energy issues over the phone on Monday.</p><p>The phone conversation comes days after State Undersecretary Jacob Helber’s visit to the Philippines.</p><p>The two officials discussed “a range of bilateral economic and security priorities, including efforts to advance peace and security in the South China Sea,” the US State Department said in a statement.</p><p>“The Secretary reaffirmed US commitment to developing the Luzon Economic Corridor and exploring ways to address the energy challenges in the region,” it read.</p><p>“The Secretary emphasized the strength of the United States-Philippines Alliance and the continued close cooperation as the two countries commemorate 80 years of diplomatic relations and 75 years as Allies in 2026.”</p><p>In 2024, the US and Japan agreed to pour billions of dollars to develop the so-called “Luzon Economic Corridor” after Marcos, then-US President Joe Biden and then-Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishira attended trilateral meetings in Washington.</p><div><br/></div><div><em>More details to follow.</em></div><div><br/></div><div><br/></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO</strong></div><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/FXaHRq4VamA?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div>
