<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:960px;display:block" width="960"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1781065214713viber_image_2026-06-10_11-44-57-189.jpg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">QC school building that caught fire a day before 2025 class opening now fully reconstructed. <em>Jervis Manahan, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — A year since being razed by a huge fire just before the opening of classes, the Dao building of San Francisco High School in Barangay Bago Bantay, Quezon City has now been fully reconstructed.</p><p>The two-storey building now has four floors with 36 classrooms and was constructed in a span of eight months.</p><p>&quot;Malaking bagay ito dahil nais kong ipakita kapag ang pera ng gobyerno ay ginagamit sa tama, ito ‘yung kaya nating gawin. Kaya natin magtayo ng four storeys, 60 classrooms <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/1/9/new-building-in-fire-hit-qc-school-completed-by-june-marcos-says-1824">in eight months’ time</a>,&quot; President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. told reporters on Wednesday.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/6/8/as-new-school-year-opens-familiar-problems-in-workload-learning-gaps-remain-1513">As new school year opens, familiar problems in workload, learning gaps remain</a></div><p>Marcos inspected the building together with Education Secretary Sonny Angara and Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon and received a warm welcome from students now using the building for classes.</p><p>&quot;Tingnan ninyo nang mabuti, makita ninyo gaano kaganda ang ating bagong classroom. And I am very, very happy to see that the students are already using it,&quot; Marcos added.</p><p>The newly constructed building now features a water sprinkler to prevent fire incidents, and can withstand strong earthquakes. It also has anti-slip flooring with new tables and blackboards.</p><p>Moreover, the building has additional classrooms so students would not need to do shifting schedules.</p><p>&quot;Ang pinakamalaking bagay dito ay hindi na sila nagdo-double shift. Ang mga bata nakakauwi ng alas-3, alas-4. Ganoon din ‘yung ating mga guro na imbis na umuuwi ng alas-7, alas-8 ng gabi ay nakakauwi na sila kagaya ng normal na estudyante, which is in the afternoon,&quot; the President said.</p><p>&quot;We&#x27;re working together, makita naman talaga ninyo what it is that we can achieve as long as the money goes to the project, not into people&#x27;s pockets,&quot; he added.</p><p>The building caught fire on June 15, 2025, merely a day before the opening of classes that school year.</p><p>Marcos has previously inspected the school after the fire incident, with one photo going viral as social media users mistook it as an AI-generated photo.</p><p>&quot;Inspeksyonin ninyo nang mabuti baka sasabihin nila AI na naman ako nandito,&quot; the President said in jest.</p><div> </div><div><strong>CLASSROOM BACKLOG</strong></div><p> The template in the quick construction of the building can be replicated in other areas of the country to address the current backlog in classrooms, Dizon said on the sidelines of the event.</p><p>&quot;Kung ito gagawin natin sa buong Pilipinas, kayang kaya natin na burahin yung 150,000 plus na backlog kung ganito tayo kabilis, at hindi lang mabilis, quality rin,&quot; Dizon said in an interview.</p><p>&quot;Talagang napakaayos ng pagkagawa. 24/7 yung construction, may malasakit yung gumawa, may malasakit yung DPWH engineering team, iba talaga kapag may malasakit at tututukan ng mabuti,&quot; he added.</p><p>Dizon said the project had an initial construction timeline of 12 months, but was finished in just 8 months.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/6/10/no-classes-in-8k-schools-as-authorities-check-damage-from-mindanao-quake-deped-0950">No classes in 8K schools as authorities check damage from Mindanao quake — DepEd</a></div><p>The initial design was also just a two-storey building but it was expanded into four floors to put more classrooms and maximize the space.</p><p>The country currently has a shortage of more than 100,000 classrooms with construction on a fraction of the shortfall expected this year.</p><p>&quot;Maaaring hindi natin mabura itong [shortage] sa dalawang taon, pero definitely, magkakaresulta tayo, bababa ang pangangailangan natin&quot; Angara said.</p><p>This is the first time the school will not hold double-shift classes because more classrooms were built.</p><p>&quot;Sobrang nakakatuwa na tinutukan ang construction ng DPWH dahil nung Enero, poste pa lang nakita namin dito,&quot; Angara said.</p><p>The public works agency led reconstruction of the building while a private mall donated another building to add more classrooms in the school.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>OTHER NEWS</strong></div><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/2HbJbem3fSk?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/MAKkIr29f-U?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div>
