<p>MANILA — Around 25,000 runners participated in the Galaxy Manila Marathon held in Pasay City from Friday night.</p><p>The event featured four running distances: 5 kilometers, 10 kilometers, 21 kilometers, and 42 kilometers.</p><p>For the 42-kilometer category, participants kicked off their run on Friday at 11:30 p.m., marking it as the first-ever marathon route laid out along Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue.</p><p>The marathon route stretched along EDSA, with runners starting in Pasay City, proceeding to EDSA North Avenue, and heading back to the starting point.</p><p>Two lanes along EDSA were temporarily closed to traffic to accommodate the runners.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/6/11/mmda-manila-marathon-will-not-paralyze-traffic-on-edsa-1427">MMDA: Manila Marathon will not paralyze traffic on EDSA</a></div><p>Some participants shared that they chose the longest distance to test their personal limits.</p><div style="text-align:center"><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?height=314&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Freel%2F1003176459018873%2F&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=560&amp;t=0" width="560" height="314" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>“Kasi nakapag-21 [kilometers] na ‘ko, gusto ko naman i-challenge ‘yung sarili ko. Tapos first time kasi na EDSA ‘yung route. Makakatakbo ako sa EDSA sa race,” said Mark Manalpac, a participant in the 42-kilometer distance.</p><p>“I think it&#x27;s an achievement, a personal achievement, and also to exceed din ‘yung growth sa sarili ko and also to praise God in what I am doing,” another runner, Erica, said.</p><p>Around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, heavy traffic build-up was observed along the southbound lane of EDSA Ortigas due to the lane closures for the marathon.</p><p>Meanwhile, the gun starts for the remaining distances were scheduled as follows:</p><ul style="list-style-type:disc"><li>21KM - 3 a.m.</li><li>10KM - 5 a.m.</li><li>5KM - 6 a.m.</li></ul><div><br/></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO:</strong></div><div style="text-align:center"><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/8kyVLCWPglI?si=25ID6e4Al5zzfIZY" title="YouTube video player" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div>
