The Department of Education projects enrollment from preschool to Senior High School at approximately 27 million students.<em> Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News </em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The Philippine National Police urged school authorities to intensify mental health and psychosocial support for students following a school <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/6/16/7-students-injured-in-knife-attack-by-schoolmate-in-cavite-1631">stabbing incident that injured seven students</a> in Cavite.</p><p>A female Grade 8 student went on a stabbing spree at a private school in Cavite on Tuesday morning, injuring seven Grade 5 students.</p><p>The PNP said bullying could be connected to the incident, with the person of interest possibly experiencing depression.</p><p>“There are some reports that ito po’y may connection sa bullying but it&#x27;s not proven yet, hindi pa po confirmed,” PNP Public Information Office Officer-in-Charge PCol. Allen Rae Co told DZMM Teleradyo.</p><p>“What we can say right now, hindi pa po official, pero lumalabas na merong sort of depression ang ating person of interest na estudyante rin po,” he added.</p><p>The person of interest remains in the PNP and the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) custody, he said.</p><p>Co urged school authorities to be proactive in identifying students who may need counselling, mental health support and other psychosocial support.</p><p>“Tingnan rin po natin yung state of mind ng ating mga estudyante,” he said.</p><div> </div><div><strong>SUGGESTED PROTOCOLS</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>The police continue to closely monitor schools to spot patterns or trends and come up with interventions to prevent similar events from happening again, but noted that it is a shared responsibility with school authorities and other stakeholders.</p><p>The PNP suggested designating limited school entry and exit points, as well as implementing strict no weapons policy and bag inspection.</p><p>Co said teachers could go on rotation to monitor students’ behavior, while support from parents, barangay and the police could also be utilized by schools. </p><p>He urged schools to establish a contingency plan for similar events, including an equipped first-aid team and direct coordination with the police, barangay officials and the nearest hospital.</p><p>Meanwhile, the police official said the PNP continues its intensified coordination with schools.</p><p>“Ito po ay kasama sa ia-identify natin, yung risk assessment natin. Ano pang mga school ang walang kakayahan?
