<p>MANILA — The police officer who owns the gun used in the <a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/6/22/alleged-school-shooting-reported-in-tacloban-1034">mass shooting</a> inside a public school in Tacloban City, Leyte has been relieved from her post as she faces an investigation over the crime.</p><p>In a telephone conference at Camp Crame, Police Brig. Gen. Jason Capoy, regional director of the Eastern Visayas police, said the policewoman, who holds the rank of Police Staff Sergeant and is assigned to the regional police office, has been placed under restrictive custody and may face administrative liability.</p><p>Based on initial findings, the Glock pistol used in the shooting belongs to the policewoman, who is the aunt of one of the two teenager suspects.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/6/23/tacloban-school-shooting-planned-shooter-got-gun-from-policewoman-aunt-pnp-0858">Tacloban school shooting &#x27;planned&#x27;, shooter got gun from policewoman-aunt: PNP</a></div><p>Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said part of the investigation is determining the accountability of the parents or guardians in relation to the incident.</p><p>“[W]hat we can also assure the public is that we will run after all those who made this possible, especially on the aspect of how these minors were able to have access to the firearms they used,” Nartatez said in a separate statement.</p><p>Meanwhile, the National Police Commission (Napolcom) is also looking into the possible administrative liability of the police officer.</p><p>Napolcom Vice Chairperson and Executive Officer Rafael Vicente Calinisan said the commission will conduct a motu proprio investigation into the policewoman, which will run parallel to, and in coordination with, the investigation being conducted by the Philippine National Police.</p><p>“This intentional or negligent act of the policewoman in allowing her niece to use her issued firearm led to the death of three teenagers, and the wounding of many others.
