Noel Sianosa, AFP</div>MANILA (UPDATED) — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered government agencies to identify the root cause of a series of violent incidents in schools  in different parts of the country, Malacañang said Thursday.Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said the chief executive was ‘heartbroken’ about the school shooting in Tacloban City that left three dead.“Ang mga mararahas na nangyayari sa ating bansa may hindi na po katanggap-tanggap, mas lalo na po kung kabataan ang nasasangkot,&quot; Castro said.(The violent incidents in our country are really unacceptable, especially if the youth are involved.)She said agencies have been ordered to investigate what led to these incidents, including the potential influence of violent gaming apps.Castro highlighted the need to nurture the youth as well as to determine the drivers of school violence, including possible online influences.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/6/24/possible-influence-of-shootings-abroad-among-leads-in-tacloban-incident-2020">Possible influence of shootings abroad among leads in Tacloban incident </a></div>“So, dapat makita po talaga kung saan nagmumula ito, kung nagkakaroon ba ng panggagaya, nagiging para bang normal ang ganitong klase na karahasan,” the Palace official said.(So, we really need to see what led to this, if there was an effort to imitate... it is like this kind of violence is being normalized.)She said the president was heartbroken that minors were capable of planning and executing the shooting that killed fellow students.Separate stabbing incidents in schools in Cavite and Negros Occidental were also reported just this month.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/6/25/dilg-wants-stronger-gun-law-permanent-gorebox-ban-1214">DILG wants stronger gun law, permanent GoreBox ban after fatal Tacloban school shooting </a></div>“Ipinag-uutos po ng pangulo ang lahat ng dapat na gawin ng mga concerned agencies para po maiwasan ang mga ganitong klaseng karahasan lalung-lalo na sa eskuwelahan, sa mga kabataan,” she added.(The president has ordered agencies to do all they can to prevent this kind of violence, especially in schools, among our youth.)<div> </div><div>DEPED COORDINATES WITH AGENCIES FOR BETTER SCHOOL SECURITY</div>The Department of Education said in a release Thursday said Education Secretary Sonny Angara met with officials from the Philippine National Police, National Bureau of Investigation, and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center for a security briefing as part of a broader effort to secure schools.DepEd said the briefing &quot;focused on harmonizing intelligence sharing, improving immediate threat response, and strengthening cyber and physical security protocols around campuses nationwide.&quot;Angara has also ordered a nationwide school safety audit, coordination with the PNP for increased police presence near schools, and daily monitoring of students and staff at San Jose National High School affected by the shooting.He also said funds have been allocated for handheld metal detectors and to repair perimeter fences at public schools.&quot;Hindi tayo papayag na magiging bahagi ang takot sa pagpasok ng ating mga anak sa paaralan. Gagawin natin ang lahat para mas mapalakas ang seguridad, mas mailapit ang suporta, at mas maagapan ang mga panganib bago pa lumala,” he said in the DepEd release.. (We will not let our children go to school in fear. We will do everything to increase security, provide support, and address threats before they get worse.)
