MANILA — Police have arrested five men for allegedly attempting to extort P5 million from a businessman by threatening to abduct and kill his wife and child.The victim, who requested to be identified only as &quot;Mike,&quot; said he began receiving a series of threatening phone calls on Thursday demanding money.The caller allegedly warned that if he failed to pay, they would kidnap and kill his wife and child and even throw a grenade at their house.&quot;Simula tanghali, hapon, gabi... tuloy-tuloy ‘yung tawag niya. Ano ba, magbibigay ka ba? Kukunin na namin, tatapunan namin ng granada ‘yung bahay mo. Nataranta ako,&quot; Mike said.Alarmed by the threats, Mike sought legal assistance, and his lawyer coordinated with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, leading to the entrapment operation.Mike said he initially had no idea who could be behind the threats became suspicious that the caller knew personal details about his family — including the names of his wife and child, and their home address.CIDG-National Capital Region chief Police Col. So kagabi we conducted an operation which leads to the arrest ng limang katao,&quot; Guiagui said.The investigation later revealed that a relative of the victim had allegedly organized the group and recruited the suspects to carry out the extortion scheme.Police said one of the arrested suspects showed investigators messages allegedly linking the relative to the plot.“Itong kamag-anak niya na ito is laging nanghihingi or hindi kaya nangungutang ng pera dahil nalulong sa sugal. So ang nakikita natin dito, siguro gipit sila,” Guiagui said.The five arrested suspects are facing complaints of robbery by means of intimidation.Authorities are continuing the manhunt for the victim&#x27;s relative, who remains at large and is the principal suspect in the case.
